Your goal is to create efficient and safe roads that ensure smooth traffic flow while keeping drivers, pedestrians, and
cyclists safe. But identifying issues on your streets and finding solutions to speeding concerns can be challenging.
Data collection solutions from Traffic Logix can help you pinpoint issues on your roads and our lineup of safety solutions can help you slow cars down to ensure safer roads. Here’s how one city successfully implemented Traffic Logix solutions to change the way people drive on their roads.
Slow Roads, Fast Speeds
In a small town near Toronto, quiet local roads had many people driving nearly double the posted speed limits. This fits with U.S. statistics as well; rural roads account for 38% of traffic fatalities. In fact, July 17-21 is designated as Rural Road Safety Week to bring awareness to the potential danger of rural roads.
Residents in the town of Gwillimbury were concerned for their families and pets and wanted the town to intervene. They considered several traffic calming options but decided on a cost-effective option that would alert speeders and slow them down.
Six of the SafePace Evolution 12 signs were installed throughout the town. The town’s traffic engineer noted that data from the signs has found a significant reduction in both average and 85th percentile speeds. He noted that drivers who were violating speed limits were automatically adjusting their speeds when they noticed the flashing lights.
Affordable and User Friendly
The SafePace Evolution 12 sign is a unique option ideal for limited budgets where MUTCD compliance is important. Despite its small footprint, the sign’s digits are still 12”, the minimum required to comply with MUTCD guidelines. The lightweight, portable signs can be moved between multiple locations and offer flashing, multi-color digits.
A Full Array
While this sign is ideal for small budgets and small town, Traffic Logix also offers a full array of interactive radar speed signs at a variety of price points. Signs offer features like variable messaging, single messaging, custom emojis, and more. They all work to refocus drivers and remind them to slow down and follow posted speed limits. Despite the lack of accompanying penalty, they are remarkably effective, as drivers self-regulate their speeds in response.
The town’s engineer, Jamal Massadeh, P.Eng., noted that they’ve gotten lots of positive feedback from residents. But he also commented that “everywhere we go…., we see Traffic Logix products. To me, that speaks volumes about….quality and efficiency.”
