When a small town in Ontario encountered speeding problems on their streets, SafePace Evolution signs helped slow drivers and improve safety.
With a population of under 8,000 residents, Hanover is a quaint town in the province of Ontario. Home to many factories and farms, Hanover has limited police presence. When speeding became a concern, increased enforcement wasn’t an option.
The Hanover police department began receiving complaints from residents about speeding on two of the town’s major roads. Both 10thStreet and Grey Road are residential streets but also popular commuter routes. When complaints kept escalating, the police department recognized that this was a serious problem and not just isolated occurrences.
They were seeking a solution that would slow drivers down and change dangerous driving behavior. They also wanted access to speed data and reports to assess effectiveness. It was important to the Hanover PD to work with a company that would support their products and be there to help solve any technical issues or challenges.
When another local police department suggested that the Hanover PD look into Traffic Logix signs, they began exploring the options. They chose the web-enabled SafePace Evolution 15 SD and purchased 3 of them for their roads.
The lightweight speed display sign offers full size MUTCD approved 15” digits. The sign flashes a speed activated “Slow Down” message to speeding drivers. The Evolution 15 SD can operate on battery, solar, or AC power and can be used at multiple locations with a universal mounting bracket.
The Hanover PD is thrilled with the Evolution signs they’re using on their roads. Sarah Monkman, Special Constable, noted that the signs “worked wonders on our speeding problem.” The signs have significantly reduced speeds on both streets they were installed on.
The Hanover PD particularly liked the Cloud and its ability to collect and store data that they can track throughout the year. They use the Cloud to generate reports that they can use to analyze and compare speed data.
“The cloud is amazing,” said Ms. Monkman. “It’s much more efficient than other solutions we’ve tried.” The police officers find the user-friendly interface easy to use to view data and generate reports.
A press conference was held to introduce the community to the signs and the response was overwhelmingly positive.
It’s not just the signs that Hanover is pleased with though. They were enthusiastic about the support and assistance that Traffic Logix offered throughout the process. “The company has been great to work with. They helped through the whole set up…. Tech support was also great. They answered all our questions and helped fix one of our signs when it went down.”
With bright LED speed display, driver responsive messaging, remote management and reporting, and superb technical support, Trafffic Logix is helping Hamilton to protect their streets every day.
