Learning from Afar
We can’t meet up with cities and communities at tradeshows or even in their offices. So our team has been helping to educate people about safer roads through a remote learning series. Each session is region specific and includes trends and statistics for that area as well as information about how to slow speeders and protect roads. This week’s webinar addressed how to improve road safety in Ontario.
How Safe are Ontario Roads?
There are 8.5 million drivers on Ontario’s roads. Fatalities are on the rise as are fatalities per vehicle on the roads. 800 Canadians die each year from speed related crashes. The economic and social consequence of crashes in Canada is estimated at $25 billion per year. While Covid has reduced vehicles on many roads, it’s also caused an increase in speeding. Drivers have been caught speeding as much as twice the posted speed limit. And with higher speeds comes higher risk, and often fatal results.
Road Safety in Ontario
The Ontario webinar included a discussion on how to reduce speeding and improve speed limit compliance. The Traffic Logix team discused traffic calming options as well as radar speed signs and speed cameras to help improve road safety in Ontario. The webinar also discussed the effectiveness of different types of solutions and what they accomplish for different road types.
